One of the founders of the law firm, John J. Orow has overseen the expansion of United Fuels from a handful of gas stations in North Carolina to a multi-state retail petroleum enterprise. Earning his Juris Doctor from Wayne State University Law School in 1996, John began his legal career partnering with Neb Mekani in what would eventually become Mekani, Orow, Mekani, Shallal, & Hindo, P.C. During his legal career he conducted hundreds of convenience store and gas station transactions and is known for advising clients not only as legal counsel, but as a strategic consultant throughout the life of a deal.
In 2006, John and his partners acquired a chain of convenience stores and quick-service restaurants in North Carolina where he oversaw day-to-day operations of the group’s convenience stores, restaurants, and fuel hauling business, with nearly 300 employees and annual sales exceeding $100 million. In 2025 John oversaw the sale of United Fuels’ large enterprise to a major Fortune 500 company. Today John spends his time with privately-held investments leaning on his extensive retail and legal experience.
